The organizing committee of the NWT Cross Country Championship met to discuss whether to proceed with the races next Friday or suspend them for 2023. The decision was influenced by two main factors. Firstly, the region has been experiencing extremely smokey days with poor air quality, leading to the relocation of land-based cultural camps. Secondly, there has been a significant increase in positive cases of Covid-19 in the community. While neither factor alone would warrant cancellation, the committee collectively decided that it would be prudent to cancel the event. Although the decision is disappointing, they believe it is the right course of action.
The 2023 NWT Cross Country Run will be hosted in Fort Providence on October 6, 2023. Schools from all over the Territory will participate in 8 different categories from the ages U6 until Seniors.
Gifts and medals will be delivered to all the schools for first, second and third place as well as the banner for the winning school.
