This is your week

Not the week where everything suddenly changes, but the week where everything you have already done begins to come together. The work is done. The growth has happened. The confidence you built, the lessons you learned, the resilience you found, it is all with you now, ready to show up when it matters.

This is your week.

Across the Northwest Territories, something special is happening. In gyms, arenas, and community spaces, you can feel it. Nets are being set up, tables rolled out, lines taped, and athletes moving with purpose. In small communities and in Yellowknife, training continues.  Coaches are showing up. Volunteers are making things happen. Athletes are getting those final touches in, not chasing perfection, but embracing the moment.

And while it may seem like this week is about the athletes, it is so much more than that. This is a week for coaches who have given their time, energy, and care. A week for volunteers who quietly make everything possible. A week for communities who open their doors and their hearts. A week for families who have supported every early morning, every late practice, every moment along the way.

This is a week for all of us.

Physical literacy lives in moments like these. It is not just about performance. It is about showing up, being ready, supporting one another, and feeling confident and connected in movement. It is about understanding that sport is not only competition, it is culture, community, and shared experience.

This week, I found myself sitting quietly in a gym early in the morning. A coach was setting up the net, getting everything ready before anyone else arrived. One athlete from a small community stepped onto the court for an 8am training session, preparing for the Arctic Winter Games. Slowly, others began to join.

What stayed with me was not just what I saw in that moment, but everything that had to happen for that moment to exist. The travel that had to be arranged so that athlete could come to the city. Someone making sure a gym was available. Hotel rooms booked. Chaperones in place. Food organized. Early alarms set. Messages sent. Doors unlocked. Lights turned on. So many quiet actions, done without recognition, without hesitation, just so young people have the opportunity to do what they love.

Sitting there, taking it all in, it felt almost surreal. And at the same time, I knew this is not a one time moment. This is happening across our territory, again and again, in different gyms, arenas, and community spaces.

One ripple at a time.

As you step into this week, give your best. Trust what you have built. Be present in every moment. And just as important, take the time to look around. Say thank you to the volunteers setting up your spaces. Thank the officials, the people preparing your meals, the ones making sure everything runs smoothly. Introduce yourself. Share a smile. Let them be part of your journey.

And never forget the people who helped you get here. Your families, your friends, your coaches, your communities. They have been with you every step of the way, and they are so proud of you. You are not travelling alone. #WeAreAllTeamNT
