Meet the Speakers

Learn from a diverse group of leaders and changemakers who will share their perspectives on physical literacy, sport, and community resilience.

Grand Chief Gerald Antoine

Gerald Antoine was born and raised at Gahtthiah, 24 miles upriver from the community of Łı́ı́dlı̨ı̨ Kų́ę́ in Denendeh (Northwest Territories). He is one of 13 children born to Cecile and William Antoine. Both his grandfathers, Ehthelo and Nahkek’o, were present when Treaty 11 was made in 1921.

Minister Shane Thompson

Shane Thompson was re-elected to the 19th Northwest Territories Legislative Assembly, representing Nahendeh’s constituency. First elected in 2015, he has served on several committees, including the Standing Committee on Social Development and the Standing Committee on Priorities and Planning.

Beth Hudson

Beth Hudson has worked as a Physical Literacy coordinator, leadership development coordinator, coach, and regional on-the-land program coordinator, wearing many hats in the NWT. She brings her broad experience to conversations about best practices and the importance of physical activity for Indigenous youth.

Veronica Allan, Ph.D.

Dr. Allan is the Manager of Research and Innovation at SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre). Her work focuses on evaluating innovative sport programs and sharing knowledge to strengthen communities through research.
