2026 Multisport Games Participation Survey Report
The 2026 Multisport Games Participation Survey was conducted in partnership with the Sport Information Resource Centre (SIRC) to better understand how people participate in the Arctic Winter Games, Canada Games, and North American Indigenous Games.
The survey explored:
- Why people participate in the Games
- Barriers to participation
- Volunteer and coach experiences
- Community engagement
- Long term involvement in sport
Although the survey represents a relatively small sample, it establishes an important baseline for future research and provides valuable insights into the strengths and challenges of the northern sport system.
Key Findings
- Participation is driven by coaches, volunteers, officials, and community leaders
- Fun, staying active, supporting community, and giving back are the strongest motivations for participation.
- Travel costs and financial barriers remain the largest challenges.
- There is a strong desire for more local sport opportunities.
- More than 80% of respondents intend to continue participating in future Games.
